Kolkata, March 27: Former BJP leader Chandra Kumar Bose, grandnephew of freedom fighter Subhas Chandra Bose, said that joining the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) was a "historic blunder." This statement comes weeks after he raised demand for verification of the authenticity of Netaji’s cap displayed at the Red Fort museum in Delhi.

Bose described joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as a “historic blunder” and criticised the party’s politics of division, stating, “Communalism cannot be fought by communalism.” He emphasised the need for unity across communities and called on political parties, social activists, and citizens to oppose divisive politics. He concluded his statement with the slogan “Jai Hind,” reinforcing his patriotic stance. Netaji Cap Row: ‘Missing’ Artefact Returns to Red Fort Museum, Chandra Kumar Bose Says It Is Not Original.

‘Historic Blunder’: Chandra Kumar Bose on Joining BJP

In his comments on social media, Bose said he quickly realised his mistake in joining a party whose agenda, he believes, prioritises polarisation to secure votes. Analysts suggest his remarks could influence Bengali politics and potentially support the formation of opposition alliances in the state. His call for collective action against divisive politics has sparked discussions among political commentators about the role of former leaders in shaping future electoral strategies.

Controversy Over Netaji’s Cap

Bose has also drawn attention to the authenticity of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s cap currently displayed at the Red Fort. The controversy began when the Open Platform for Netaji (OPN) reported the cap missing from the INA Museum, raising questions about its handling. West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026: Roopa Ganguly To Contest From Sonarpur Dakshin As BJP Releases 2nd List of 111 Candidates.

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) clarified that the cap had been temporarily moved to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands for an exhibition and was returned to Delhi after the event. A technical issue with the display case delayed its reinstallation.

However, Bose has now claimed that the cap on display may not be the original artefact, citing observations from Netaji researchers and previous viewers. He has urged an investigation into the matter, while the ASI has not yet responded to these new allegations.
