New Delhi, March 17: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bharatiya Janata Paty (BJP) President Amit Shah on Sunday added the word 'Chowkidar' to their names on Twitter as part of the party's 'Main Bhi Chowkidar' campaign. PM Modi has got a new name 'Chowkidar Narendra Modi'. Similarly, Amit Shah has become 'Chowkidar Amit Shah'. Union Ministers Piyush Goyal and JP Nadda also added 'Chowkidar' in his name on Twitter.

BJP leaders such as Tajinder Singh Bagga and Amit Malviya also made the above changes to their names. The symbolic development comes a day after PM Modi launched the 'Main Bhi Chowkidar' campaign, calling everyone who all were fighting corruption, social evils and working hard for the progress of India, as watchmen. "Your Chowkidar is standing firm and serving the nation. But, I am not alone. Everyone who is fighting corruption, dirt, social evils is a Chowkidar," he tweeted.

"Everyone working hard for the progress of India is a Chowkidar. Today, every Indian is saying. Main Bhi Chowkidar," PM Modi added. With the tweet, the Prime Minister also shared a 3.45-minute video titled "Take The Pledge", urging people to join Modi on March 31 at 6 p.m. for a video programme titled 'Main Bhi Chowkidar".

The 'Main Bhi Chowkidar' campaign is apparently a counter-attack by the BJP against Congress President Rahul Gandhi's 'Chowkidar Chor Hai' jibe. The seven-phased Lok Sabha elections are scheduled from April 11 to May 19. The counting of votes will take place on May 23.
