In the simultaneous assembly and Lok Sabha polls held on April 11, Reddy's YSR Congress Party handed a crushing defeat to the incumbent Chandrababu Naidu-led TDP.

The YSRCP won 151 out of th 175 assembly seats, along with 22 out of the 25 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state.

Ahead of the results, Reddy had kept pollsters on the edge claiming that he would extend support to that coalition which promises special category status to Andhra. However, the situation did not arise as the BJP-led NDA won way above the halfway majority mark.
