Hazaribagh, July 7: Union Minister Jayant Sinha has kicked up a storm after he was caught on camera welcoming and garlanding the convicts in the lynching case. The union minister was seen felicitating and offering sweets to the convicts when they came out of the jail after obtaining bail. According to media reports, all the convicts who were seen getting a warm welcome by the minister, were convicted in the case of killing a meat trader in Ramgarh, Jharkhand in 2017.

The controversy came in public light due to the photographs which have emerged of Mr Sinha with the convicts. The photos clearly show the minister welcoming the convicts at his residence. Jayant Sinha is the union minister of state for civil aviation.

The union minister came under severe criticism and gave his justification on Twitter on Saturday morning tweeted saying "I unequivocally condemn all acts of violence and reject any type of vigilantism. The rule of law is supreme in our constitutional democracy. Any unlawful acts, particularly those that violate the rights of any citizen, should be punished with the full force of the law."

The minister also tweeted saying that "I have repeatedly expressed my misgivings about the Fast-Track Court judgement sentencing each accused to life imprisonment. I am pleased that the Hon'ble High Court will hear the matter as a statutory court of appeal to test the correctness of the Fast-Track Court order":

Sinha also tweeted claiming that the Honorable Ranchi High Court has suspended the sentence of the accused and released them on bail:

The case, in which a total number of 11 men were sentenced to a life term, also involved the name of a local BJP leader. A meat trader named, Alimuddin Ansari, was pulled out of his car and lynched by the mob on the suspicion of carrying beef. His car was also set on fire as he was left to die on the road.
