The Congress-JD(S) government was formed last month after Karnataka gave a fractured mandate in the assembly polls held on May 12. While BJP emerged as the single-largest party with 104 legislators, they fall short of the majority-mark by 8 MLAs. Although BS Yeddyurappa took oath as the Chief Minister on May 17, the government could last for only two days as it failed to prove majority in the House. Subsequently, HD Kumaraswamy was sworn-in as the CM with support of 37 Congress MLAs, 78 BJP legislators and one each of BSP and KPJP.
