Karnataka Political Crisis: 10 Rebel MLAs Escape to Mumbai as Congress Switches Into Damage Control Mode

Three Janata Dal – Secular (JDS) and seven Congress rebel MLAs of Karnataka reached Mumbai's Sofitel Hotel after landing at Mumbai airport. They reached Mumbai after submitting their resignations to Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar.

Bengaluru, July 6: Three Janata Dal – Secular (JDS) and seven Congress rebel MLAs of Karnataka reached Mumbai on Saturday. The legislators later arrived at Mumbai’s Sofitel Hotel. However, other three rebel legislators Ramalinga Reddy, ST Somashekar and Munirathna stayed behind. Meanwhile, senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge has left for Bengaluru amid the political crisis in Karnataka. Before leaving for the state capital, Kharge said, “Many of the MLAs who want to leave Congress have been associated with the party for a long time. I've faith that they'll stay with us & support the party. I'm going to Bengaluru. I'll make further comments after looking at the ground situation there.”

10 Rebel MLAs reach Mumbai:

Karnataka Congress in-charge KC Venugopal also held meeting with Siddaramaiah, KPCC Working President Eashwar Khandre, DK Shivakumar, DK Suresh and other leaders to discuss about the situation which after 11 rebel MLAs of Congress-JDS alliance resigned. Till now, 14 MLAs of the alliance had submitted resignations. On the other hand, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rubbished all the claims of influencing the MLAs to resign. Leader of opposition in the Karnataka Assembly BS Yeddyurappa said that his party has nothing to do with developments in other rival parties.
