Bhubaneswar, May 23: The counting of votes for the Laxmipur, Kotpad, Jeypore, Koraput, Pottangi Assembly constituencies in Odisha began at 8 AM on Thursday, May 23. The polling in these five constituencies was held in the first phase on April 11.  In Odisha, polling was held in four phases between April 11 to April 29. The first phase was held on April 11, second on April 18, third on April 23 and fourth on April 29. The state voted simultaneously for Lok Sabha and assembly constituencies. There are 21 Lok Sabha and 147 Assembly seats in Odisha.

The Laxmipur, Kotpad, Jeypore, Koraput, Pottangi Assembly constituencies in Odisha will go to poll in the first phase on April 11. Laxmipur: Laxmipur Vidhan Sabha constituency of Koraput district includes Laxmipur block, Dasamanthapur block, Bandhugaob block and Narayanpatana block. For the 2019 assembly elections, the BJP has given its ticket to Kumuda Chandra Saunta from this constituency while the Congress has given its ticket to Kailash Chandra Kulesika. The ruling BJD has given its ticket to Prabhu Jani while the BSP had fielded Anita Sagaria from this seat. In 2014 polls, Congress Kailash Chandra Kulesika won from this Constituency.

Kotpad: Kotpad Vidhan Sabha constituency of Koraput district includes Kotpad, Kotpad block, Kundra block, 11 Gram panchayats (Dengapadar, Aunli, Malda, Sanparia, Jujhari, Kamara, Pondasguda, Sosahandi, Kanagam, Anchala and Bijapur) of Borigumma block and 7 Gram pachayats (Gupteswar, Ramagiri, Dandabadi, Baligam, Kathapada, Majhiguda and Tentuliguma) of Boipariguda block.

For 2019 Assembly polls, the BJP has given its ticket to Khageswar Pujari while Chandra Sekhar Majhi of the Congress will contest the election from this seat. The BJD has given its ticket to Padmini Dian while BSP candidate Mangalsai Majhi  will contest from the Kotpad seat. In the elections held in 2014, Congress candidate candidate Chandra Sekhar Majhi won from this constituency.

Jeypore: This Vidhan Sabha constituency of Koraput district includes Jeypore, Jeypore block, 19 Gram panchayats (BB.Singpur, Benagam, Bodigam, Borigumma, Champapadar, Gujuniguda, Gumuda, Haridaguda, Hordali, Kamta, Katharagada, Kumuli, Munja, Narigam, Nuagam, Ranaspur, Sargiguda, Semolaguda and Benasur) of Borigumma block. In the run up to the 2019 assembly polls, the BJP has fielded Goutam Samantray from this constituency while the Congress has given its ticket to Taraprasad Bahinipati.

The BJD has given its ticket to Rabi Narayan Nanda while BSP candidate  Krishna Chandra Sagaria will contest from the Jeypore constituency. In the last elections held in 2014, Congress candidate Tara Prasad Bahinipati had defeated incumbent Biju Janata Dal candidate Rabi Narayan Nanda.

Koraput: This Vidhan Sabha constituency of Koraput district includes Koraput, Sunabeda Lamptaput block, 15 Gram panchayats (Badasuku, Deoghati, Kendar, Kerenga, Lankaput, Mahadeiput, Manbar, Mastiput, Padmapur and Umuri) of Koraput block and 8 Gram panchayats (Bodaput, Boipariguda, Chandrapada, Chipakur, Dasamanthapur, Doraguda, Kenduguda, Kollar and Mahuli) of Boipariguda block.

In the run up for the upcoming assembly polls in the state, BJP has fielded Tripurary Gorada from this constituency while the Congress has given its ticket to Krushna Kuldip. The ruling BJD has given the ticket to Raghu Ram Padal from the Koraput constituency while the BSP has given its ticket to Bhagirathi Patnia. In the 2014 election, Congress candidate Krushna Chandra Sagaria defeated Biju Janata Dal candidate Raghuram Machha by a margin of 4,976 votes.

Pottangi: This Vidhan Sabha constituency of Koraput district includes Damanjodi, Pottangi block, Nandapur block, Semiliguda block and 3 Gram panchayats (Litiguda, Dumuripadar and Mathalput) of Koraput block. For the 2019 polls, the BJP has given its ticket to Rama Chandra Pangi while the Congress has fielded its candidate Rama Chandra Kadam from the Pottangi  seat.

Meanwhile, the ruling BJD has fielded Pitam Padhi from this constituency while BSP candidate Muralidhara Guntha will contest polls from this seat. In 2014 election, Biju Janata Dal candidate Prafulla Kumar Pangi won from this constituency.

In March, the Election Commission had announced that voting will be held on April 11, April 18, April 23, April 29, May 6, May 12 and May 19. Polling in Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Odisha will be held simultaneously with the Lok Sabha elections 2019. During the upcoming elections, a total of 91 constituencies will go for polls in first phase, 97 in second phase, 115 in third phase, 71 in fourth, 51 in fifth, and 59 each in sixth and seventh phase from April 11 to May 19. In the last elections held in the year 2014, CM Naveen Patnaik's Biju Janata Dal (BJD) had won 117 seats, while the Congress was the second largest party with 16 seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had managed to win only 10 of the 147 seats in Odisha.
