Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2019: 102-Year-Old Man Votes in Pune, Smriti Irani Calls 93-Year-Old Voter 'Hero'

Mumbai, October 21: The state of Maharashtra and Haryana went to polls on October 21, 2019 on Monday. Like every year, people from various walks of life and age-group participated in the voting festival. However, there were three voters who stood out for exercising their franchise for their sheer belief in democracy. In three different incidents, a 106-year old man, 102-year-old senior citizen and a 93-years-old resident of Mumbai cast their vote, serving as an example for all.

Haji Ibrahim Aleem Joad, a 102-year-old man, cast vote along with his family at a polling booth in Lohegaon in Pune. " I was admitted to hospital for 4 days but today I'm here to cast my vote. I urge everyone to come forward and vote," he said, speaking to news agency ANI.

In Bahraich, where by-elections took place in Balha constituency, Harsh Singh, a 106-year-old man cast his vote.

Union Minister Smriti Irani cast her vote in Mumbai. After casting her vote, she said that, "Today's hero is Khanna ji (man standing next to her),he had served in Army. He is 93 and came out to vote. It is an inspiration,request people to come out and vote,if at 93 he can vote,who is stopping you?"

Voting began on an enthusiastic note in the Assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana on Monday. People stood outside polling booths since early morning. Polling is also being held in the by-election to 51 Assembly seats and two Lok Sabha constituencies spread across 18 states.
