Among those in attendance at the oath taking ceremony in Arunachal included the Chief Ministers of Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura and Meghalaya.

Khandu, 39, first took over as the CM in July 2016, after a series of defections from the state-unit of Congress. Khandu was among the Congress rebels who first switched to the NPP and subsequently jumped ship to the BJP with the entire legislature rank.

In the single-phased assembly polls held on April 11, voting was held in 57 constituencies as 3 BJP legislators were elected unopposed. The BJP-led by Khandu won 41 seats in the 60-member assembly.
