New Delhi, October 8: Prime Minister Narendra Modi burnt the effigy of Ravana at DDA Ground in New Delhi’s Dwarka. PM Modi shot at the effigy with a bow and an arrow during the Dussehra celebrations after which the effigy was set on fire. The Prime Minister shared the video of the Ravan Dahan on his Twitter handle. People chanted slogans of "Jai Shri Ram" after PM Modi shot at the Ravana Effigy. Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Chief Manoj Tiwari and senior party leaders were also present at the celebrations.

Along with the video, PM Modi tweeted, “May the blessings of Prabhu Shri Ram always remain upon us. May the power of truth, goodness and compassion always prevail. May evil be eliminated. Speaking at the event, PM Modi said, “Ours is the land where 'Maa' is worshipped. It's our responsibility to respect every daughter in India. Earlier in the day, PM Modi also wished the nation on the occasion of Dussehra. The festival, also known as Vijayadashami celebrates the victory of good over evil. The Ravan Dahan is organised in several parts of the nation on the day of Vijayadashami. It marks the end of the nine-day festivities of Navratri.

Dussehra is celebrated with various rituals, traditions and customs in different parts of the country. It is celebrated every year at the end of Sharad Navratri. Similarly, in the southern and eastern parts of India, this festival marks the day that Goddess Durga defeated the buffalo demon, Mahishasura.
