The Hindu festival of Jagannath Rath Yatra, also simply called Rath Yatra is a public procession held annually in Odisha. Jagannath means "lord of the world" and in the form of Hindu gods, Krishna/Vishnu/ Rama worshipped in Odisha. Odisha is known for its famous Jagannath Temple where the Ratha Yatra or the Chariot festival is celebrated at the temple of Jagannath. Elephants are beautifully decorated and paraded on the streets as a part of the festival. It is associated with Lord Jagannath and this year the festival begins on June 23. The festival is celebrated in Odisha, Jharkhand and parts of Eastern India. Ratha Yatra is celebrated internationally in countries like Dublin, Moscow and New York. The observance commemorates Jagannath's visit to Gundicha Temple through Mausi Maa temple in Puri. The ritual is held every in the Hindu month of Ashadha which corresponds with the Hindu months of June or July. The chariots of the deities are newly built every year which is called Nandighosa. The chariot of Balabhadra is called Taladhwaja and that of Subhadra is called Dwarpadalana.
