July 4th marks the death anniversary of Indian thinker and philosopher, Swami Vivekananda. Born as Narendranath Datta in an aristocratic Bengali family in Calcutta and is known for introducing the Hindu Vedanta philosophy to the West. He has travelled the length and breadth of India to understand the people of his country. He passed away on July 4, 1902, at the young age of 39. After the death of his father, Vivekananda and his family had to go through utter poverty. Ramakrishna Paramahansa was the guru of Swami Vivekananda. According to the book 'The Monk as Man' by renowned Bengali writer Shankar, Swami Vivekananda suffered from 31 ailments. From celebrities, politicians to commoners everyone took to social media remembering Swami Vivekananda on his death anniversary. Vice President, Venkaiah Naidu took to Twitter saying, "I join the nation in remembering Swami Vivekananda on his death anniversary, today.  He was a charismatic spiritual leader, & a towering intellectual who introduced Vedanta philosophy to the West and  inspired millions across the world through his teachings."

The original name of Vivekananda was Vireshwara that was given to him by his mother. While he used to be referred to as 'Biley', he took up the name Swami Vivekananda after becoming a monk.

It was Vivekananda's talk at the World Parliament of Religions in Chicago, the United States that paved a way for Hinduism to be displayed on the public platform. He is known for reforming Hinduism drastically and revolutionising the Orient philosophy. Vivekananda is also known for his active involvement in the Indian freedom struggle. His talks and charisma pushed the Indian youth to wake up and strive towards attaining freedom for the country.
