Every year on August 10, people across the world observe World Biofuel Day to create awareness about non-fossil fuels. As the smartest technologies continue to deliver benefits, biofuels include the positive impact that it can have on the environment and an improved economy. On this day, the event strives to create awareness among the citizens to understand the importance of environment-friendly fuels as an alternative to conventional fossil fuels. Besides, various government efforts in the biofuel sector is also emphasised on this day. World Biofuel Day 2019 Theme

Every year, the government comes out with different themes to highlight the importance of environment-friendly fuels. According to the Press Information Bureau, the theme of World Biofuel Day 2019 is “Production of Biodiesel from Used Cooking Oil (UCO).” In our country, we have often seen that people use the same cooking oil for repeated frying, which adversely affects health. PIB in its report states, “The benefits of transformation of UCO will help bring health benefits as there would be no recycling of the UCO, employment generation, infrastructural investment in rural areas & cleaner environment with reduced carbon footprint.”

World Biofuel Day: History & Significance

World Biofuel Day is observed by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, India since 2015. The role of biodiesel is not just to replace fossil fuel but to help form a balanced policy. Biofuels are environment-friendly, and their use would address global concerns about the suppression of carbon emissions. It also has the benefits of reducing import dependency on crude oil, clean atmosphere, additional income to the farmers and employment generation in rural areas.

On World Biofuel Day, the Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas & Steel, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan will inaugurate the programme to be held at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. Environmentalists, researchers, politicians and many more would attend the event to highlight the importance of Biofuel today and save the environment.
