The clarification comes after reports of panic buying in some areas. According to government sources, Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd., a subsidiary of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, along with other refineries, currently has sufficient crude oil stock and the country remains in a comfortable energy position. Petrol Price Reaching INR 500 per Litre Is Fake News.
Officials also noted that India’s energy imports are now more diversified, with a smaller share coming from the Strait of Hormuz compared to earlier years. In the LNG sector as well, only about 30 percent of supply passes through the Strait of Hormuz, while around 10 percent comes from the United States, with additional supplies sourced from other global markets.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has directed oil marketing companies to prioritise domestic LPG supply. During a high-level meeting chaired by Hardeep Singh Puri, refiners were asked to ensure that propane and butane are prioritised for household LPG production rather than diverted to industrial use. The move aims to maintain stable domestic fuel availability and prevent any potential disruption in cooking gas supply.
