Wallace Raymond Woolley, better known as Ray Woolley for the third time in a row, celebrated his birthday by breaking his own world record. The oldest scuba diver this time plunged to the depth of 42.4 metres for 48 minutes. Woolley turned 96 on August 28, 2019. With this, he beat his previous record of 40.6 metres for 44 minutes. It is unbelievable to witness the feat that he is achieving every year. Woolley is from Cyprus and was reportedly a British radio operator in World War II. The organisers of the diving event held at the MS Zenobia shipwreck reported that the 96-year-old stayed at a depth of 42.4 meters for at least 44 minutes. He dived into the water along with other 47 divers. "Its just unbelievable. I've been diving now for 59 years and these are the sort of dives that you remember because there are so many divers with you," the scuba diver was quoted saying in reports. He further added, "If I can still dive and my buddies are willing to dive with me I hope I can do it again next year."

In 2017 and 2018, Woolley consecutively broke his records. In 2017, he plunged to the depth of 38.1 meters for 41 minutes, and in 2018, he dived for 44 minutes at a depth of 40.6 metres. His recent achievement has even earned him a documentary on his life, "Life Begins at 90." The film will reportedly be shown at the Bosnia-Herzegovina film festival in September this year.
