These days a sighting of an unusual animal or bird can spread fear among people. Amid the pandemic, pictures of large-sized bats have surfaced online and they are mentioned as "human-sized". These bats are definitely larger than the regular bats we see, but they are not the size of humans. They are Giant Golden-Crowned Flying Fox which are commonly found in the Philippines. So if they are real, how do they look the size of a human in the pics? Well, that's the trick photography, in which an object is clicked from a closer distance to make it appear bigger in the frame. So the bats do look huge, but they are not the size of humans. We tell you more about these species.

The pictures were shared last month by a Twitter user Alex (@AlexJoestar622). He called it "human-sized" in the caption and it spread more fear among people. Alex then even clarified that they are not actually human-sized but their wingspan is huge and not their height. But the pics have cast an impression on everyone and spreading more fear. The bats look big, but they aren't. It is called a forced perspective technique, in which the objects can be made to appear bigger or smaller using the placement of a subject. It is similar to how tourists click pictures with monuments to make them appear small than them. In the above pics, because of the motorbike kept at the back, the bat appears too big.

Coming to the actual size of these giant golden-crowned flying fox. They are one of the largest bat species in the world. They have a wingspan of 5 to 6 feet long. These species have the longest forearm length measuring up to 215 mm and weigh about 1.5 kgs, the heaviest of all bat species. So yes, they have wide wings but their height is nowhere close to humans. Now you know, these are no human-sized bats so do not panic if you come across these pics again. Also, this is not the first these pictures have come up online, they went viral about two years ago as well.
