Allahabad High Court Says Interfaith Couples Can Marry Under Special Marriage Act Without Need of Converting Their Religion, Grants Protection To Live-In Couple
The petitioners told the court that without converting to the religion of the other, they decided to cohabit as husband and wife and get married under the Special Marriage Act soon.
The Allahabad High Court recently said that the law does not prevent an interfaith couple from applying for court marriage under the Special Marriage Act without the requirement of converting their religion. The high court bench of Justice Jyotsna Sharma observed while granting protection to a live-in couple who had moved the court seeking a direction to restrain opposite parties from interfering with their life, liberty and privacy.
