A 66-year-old woman tragically lost her life after falling from a moving private bus in Kovaipudur, Coimbatore, on Sunday morning, March 29, 2026. The deceased, G. Kamatchi, had boarded route S-17 from Ayyappal Kovil bus stop and was walking towards a vacant seat when the driver suddenly accelerated. With no doors on the bus, she lost balance and fell through the front steps onto the road. She sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to a government hospital in Sundakamuthur, but died before arrival. Police identified the driver as K. Ramakrishnamoorthi, 41, and registered a case under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for rash driving and negligence. A CCTV video from inside the bus has surfaced, aiding the investigation. Kamatchi’s body was sent for post-mortem at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.
