‘Listen to Me or I’ll Have You Removed From the Court’: CJI Chandrachud Loses Temper at Lawyer Over Political Plea in RG Kar Hospital Case (Watch Video)
CJI DY Chandrachud lost his temper and threatened to remove a lawyer from the court for attempting to introduce a political plea regarding the resignation of West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee in the RG Kar Hospital case.
In a dramatic exchange in the Supreme Court, Chief Justice DY Chandrachud lost his temper at a lawyer who was attempting to introduce a politically charged intervention application in the RG Kar Hospital case on Tuesday, September 17. The application sought the resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee following the rape and murder of a junior doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. CJI Chandrachud sharply questioned the lawyer's credentials and the relevance of their plea, emphasising, "This is not a political forum. You are a member of the Bar. What you say has to abide by the rules of legal discipline." He further warned, "Listen to me or I'll have you removed from the Court," in response to the lawyer's repeated interruptions. The Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice Chandrachud and Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, ultimately dismissed the petition, reaffirming that political grievances are not suited for judicial review.
