In a surprise political twist, Meera Kamble, a corporator from All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), voted in favour of a BJP candidate during the mayoral elections at the Amravati Municipal Corporation in Maharashtra on Friday. Kamble cast her vote for Shrichand Tejwani of the Bharatiya Janata Party for the mayor’s post and supported Sachin Bhende of the Yuva Swabhiman Party for deputy mayor. The move stunned the civic body, given the stark ideological differences between the parties. A video from the voting session showed Kamble openly raising her hand instead of voting discreetly, drawing immediate attention. Following the results, Tejwani was elected mayor and Bhende deputy mayor. Soon after, AIMIM suspended Kamble for defying the party line.
