Joe Root top-scored for the hosts with a resilient 76, while Liam Dawson added a quick-fire 68. India’s run chase suffered an early double blow as returning veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli fell cheaply in the opening powerplay. However, a dominant 80 from Shubman Gill and a composed 35 from Shreyas Iyer anchored the recovery. Following Gill's departure, Washington Sundar played a vital unbeaten cameo of 52 off 63 balls to guide the visitors home comfortably and hand Shubman Gill a winning start to the three-match series.
