India secured a comprehensive six-wicket victory over England in the first ODI at Edgbaston, successfully chasing down a target of 259 with 28 balls to spare. Opting to bat first, England were bowled out for 258 in 47.5 overs, largely undone by a brilliant four-wicket haul from Axar Patel (4/62) and clinical support from Prasidh Krishna (2/50) and Gurnoor Brar (2/61). Joe Root top-scored for the hosts with a resilient 76, while Liam Dawson added a quick-fire 68. India’s run chase suffered an early double blow as returning veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli fell cheaply in the opening powerplay. However, a dominant 80 from Shubman Gill and a composed 35 from Shreyas Iyer anchored the recovery. Following Gill's departure, Washington Sundar played a vital unbeaten cameo of 52 off 63 balls to guide the visitors home comfortably and hand Shubman Gill a winning start to the three-match series. Virat Kohli Wicket Video: Star Batter Falls Cheaply to Jofra Archer in Edgbaston ODI.
