The hosts got past the finish line in an all-round show in Dambulla as they chased down a 136-run target with one over to spare. Dunith Wellalage was Sri Lanka's best bowler with three wickets and he also scored an unbeaten 11 off seven balls, hitting the winning runs.
Sri Lanka have beaten New Zealand by four wickets in the first T20I of the two-match series in Dambulla. Chasing 136 to win, the Sri Lanka national cricket team kept losing wickets at regular intervals but the hosts were guided to the win by captain Charith Asalanka who scored an unbeaten 35-run knock off 28 deliveries, with two sixes and one four and Dunith Wellalage (11* off seven balls). For New Zealand, Zakary Foulkes took three wickets while Mitchell Santner, Glenn Phillips and Michael Bracewell took one each. Earlier, the Sri Lanka bowlers put up an impressive show as New Zealand were restricted to 135 all out in 19.3 overs. For Sri Lanka, Dunith Wellalage took three wickets while Wanindu Hasaranga, Nuwan Thusara and Matheesha Pathirana took two wickets each.
