Protests are currently breaking out in Kolkata for the doctor rape and murder case at the RG Kar medical college. Concerned for the security, the organisers of the Durand Cup 2024 decided to cancel the Kolkata derby set to be played between Mohun Bagan Super Giant and East Bengal and divide points between the two teams. The matches of both clubs were also shifted out from Kolkata. In a gesture of protest, the fans of both sides joined their hands forgetting their century old arch-rivalry and staged a protest outside the Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Krirangan in Salt Lake. Some of them got detained by police too but the waves of protest never stopped. Fans loved their gesture of solidarity and made the videos of their protest viral on social media.
