Grandmaster Karthikeyan Murali Becomes Third Indian Chess Player To Defeat Magnus Carlsen, Achieves Feat With Victory Over Norwegian World No 1 in Seventh Round of Qatar Masters 2023
Hailing from Thanjavur, the Indian outplayed Magnus Carlsen with a fine performance. He is the second Indian to have defeated the stalwart in classical chess after he became world no 1.
Grandmaster Karthikeyan Murali pulled off an amazing achievement as he became the third Indian to beat world champion Magnus Carlsen. Murali defeated the Norwegian with black pieces in the seventh round of the Qatar Masters 2023. Karthikeyan capitalised on an error from Carlsen to clinch the win as he became the second Indian to get the better of the Norwegian in classical chess after Viswanathan Anand. Overall, GM @KarthikeyanM64 is the 3rd Indian player to defeat Magnus Carlsen, as GM Pentala @HariChess defeated Magnus at Lausanne Young Masters, 2005.
But after Magnus became the World no. 1, Karthikeyan is only the second Indian player to defeat him in classical chess!
