On a busy high street, a number of people were hit by a speeding car, causing at least one person to die and several more to sustain injuries. The car struck many pedestrians at a tram stop outside McDonald's on Bourke Street in Melbourne, Australia, before colliding with two other vehicles. According to national media, five individuals were sent to the hospital as a result of the incident. At least one person is believed to have died. Just before 7 o'clock, a man was taken into custody there.
