Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus has been sworn in as the head of Bangladesh’s newly formed interim government following the ouster of Sheikh Hasina's administration. The oath-taking ceremony, held at the presidential palace "Bangabhaban," on August 8, also saw prominent figures such as Dr Salehuddin Ahmed, a former Bangladesh Bank governor, and Brigadier General (retd) M Sakhawat Hossain, a former election commissioner, taking office. The interim government includes a diverse array of experts and activists, such as human rights advocate Adilur Rahman Khan, environmental lawyer Syeda Rizwana Hasan, and academic Farida Akhter. Supradip Chakma, previously Bangladesh’s ambassador to Vietnam and Mexico, and Sharmeen Murshid of the human rights organisation Brotee are also part of the team. The new administration emerges amidst significant political upheaval, with student activists Nahid Islam and Asif Mahmud playing key roles in the recent quota reform movements that contributed to the government's fall.
