29 August each year is celebrated as the National Sports Day in India. The day marks the birthday of hockey legend Dhyan Chand Singh. On this special day, Indian athletes participating at the Asian Games 2018 will be extra motivated to perform well. India had a good at the 2018 Asian Games and added nine medals to take the tally to 50. Manjit Singh won the gold medal in the menâs in the men's 800m while Jinson Johnson won silver in the same event. India had to settle for silver in the badminton after PV Sindhu lost her women's singles finals match to Tai Tzu Ring of Chinese Taipei. Nonetheless, it was a historic silver medal for India. In mixed relay 4x400m, India won the silver. However, India later lodged a protest for obstruction against Bahrain. On day 10, India picked medals in Kurash, archery teams and in Table Tennis. Indiaâs medal hopes once again for their consecutive day will pin on track and field events. Indiaâs Rakesh Babu Arayan Veettil and Arpinder Singh will be in action in Menâs Triple Jump Final. Besides it, Dutee Chand will contest in the final of Womenâs 200m. Interestingly, on Dhyan Chandâs birthday, Indian womenâs hockey team will face China in the semifinal. So, the team will be hoping to qualify for finals as they have been in good form, winning four consecutive matches.
