Stumps on Day 2! What an enthralling day of Test cricket it has been on Day 2 of the Edgbaston Test. It has been a day owned by India, first with the bat particularly because of Shubman Gill's majestic 269 and impactful contributions from Yashasvi Jaiswal (87), Ravindra Jadeja (89) and Washington Sundar (42). Shubman Gill broke a number of records and he established himself as the star of the day with his knock of his. India finished with a mammoth 587-run total on the board and the bowlers then  stepped up big time, taking three England wickets. Akash Deep, who came in as Jasprit Bumrah's replacement, took two wickets and Mohammed Siraj got one. India's slip-catching, which attracted attention for all the wrong reasons in Leeds, was on point with all three catches being good ones. England however retaliated with a 52-run unbeaten partnership between Harry Brook and Joe Root. England were 77/3 at stumps. 

Harry Brook and Joe Root, arguably two of England's best batters are out there in the middle and both of them would look to build a partnership here. England have been rocked with three quick wickets and India ideally would want a couple more today.

England have begun their first innings and it has been some start, especially by Zak Crawley, who hit a couple of sensational drives for boundaries off the bowling of Akash Deep. India will ideally want to pick up a couple of wickets here today. 

OUT! Shoaib Bashir has ended India's innings with the visitors making 587. Mohammed Siraj misjudged the ball and came down the track only to miss it and see Jamie Smith take out the stumps. But this innings has been about Shubman Gill, who set a plethora of records with a superb 269-run knock and this performance is surely to be remembered for a long time to come. England's response will come up shortly.

A great round of applause from the Edgbaston crowd, and England players are congratulating Shubman Gill, who played a record-breaking innings. Superb session for Team India and Shubman Gill. The Asian Giants have notched up 145 runs in 31 overs in the second session as they continue to make merry of beautiful batting conditions. Shubman Gill is eyeing a 300 here, and probably he won't get a better chance than this to make that figure in Tests. A magnificent knock by the India Test captain. Shubman Gill remains unbeaten on 265 as he walks off with a standing ovation from the Edgbaston crowd.

OUT! Joe Root has provided India with the breakthrough and it has come out of nowhere, with Washington Sundar's stumps being rattled. England will look to wrap up this innings quickly now that they are into India's tail. Washington Sundar b Joe Root 42(103) 

Shubman Gill has broken Virat Kohli's record of the highest score by an Indian captain in Test cricket. The right-hander achieved this feat when he went past 254 and broke the long-standing record held by Virat Kohli. 

250 up for Shubman Gill! He has continued to do the good work with the bat in hand and now, he will hope to take India close to the 600-650-run mark. England on the other hand, continue to be under pressure.

India have now scored in excess of 500 runs! What a performance this has been and it has been led by Shubman Gill with his sparkling double century. Washington Sundar has also come out and played some good shots. England on the other hand, seem to be losing out on ideas at this stage. 

DOUBLE CENTURY for Shubman Gill! The Indian captain has shown real class and maturity with this superb performance and he has shown why he is the right man to take the Test team forward. A massive performance this and he will look to continue in the same manner! This is also the first instance of an Indian captain scoring double hundred in Tests in England. 

India continue to look untroubled in this second session on Day 1. Shubman Gill and Washington Sundar will aim at ensuring that India get more than 500 runs on the board. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill's score has gone past 180 which means that he has overtaken Mohammed Azharuddin's record of the highest Test score by an Indian captain in England. 

We are back after the lunch break and India will look to add as many runs as possible from here on to put up a solid first innings total. Shubman Gill will be eyeing his maiden double century in Tests, while Washington Sundar at the other end would want to justify his selection. 

LUNCH on Day 2! Shubman Gill and Ravindra Jadeja have put India in a position of control and dominance in this Edgbaston Test. The two batters continued their partnership and seemed relatively unperturbed at the crease. Both players scored easily and England looked clueless for a good part. However, they had some success with Josh Tongue removing Ravindra Jadeja, who was 11 runs away from a century. But Shubman Gill is going strong at the other end and will look to eye a double century. 

OUT! England finally have some success on Day 2 with Josh Tongue dismissing Ravindra Jadeja! The left-hander was surprised by the short ball and Jamie Smith took a good catch behind the stumps. 150 for Shubman Gill! It is the first time that the right-hander has attained this mark in Test cricket and what a knock it has been. He has batted with a lot of maturity and now, will have his sights set on a double hundred here.
