SA Beat IND by 30 Runs | India vs South Africa 1st Test 2025 Day 3 Highlights: Simon Harmer, Bowlers Shine As Proteas Go 1-0 Up

WTC Champions South Africa have stunned India and clinched the IND vs SA 1st Test 2025 by 30 runs, and gained an unassailable 1-0 lead in the two-match series. For South Africa, Simon Harmer led the bowling unit, picking four wickets, while others chipped in, which saw India falter in their chase of 124 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Day 3 saw Temba Bavuma rise with the bat for South Africa, scoring his 26th Test half-century, ensuring the visitors set a par target for India. Simon Harmer shone once again, claiming 4 wickets, to end up with eight wickets in the Test as Indian batters displayed a poor batting show on a tough wicket. 

OUT! Aiden Markram gets the crucial wicket of Washington Sundar, and India are on the brink of defeat. Sundar went to defend, but the ball got an extra bounce, caught the outer edge, and went straight into the fielder's hand. 

OUT! Simon Harmer gets his man, and Ravindra Jadeja has to walk back. Jadeja gets wrapped on the pad and is instantly given leg-before by the on-field umpire off Harmer's delivery. India have crossed the 50-run mark, with a lot of hard work from Washington Sundar, as other batters have failed. Sundar has found support in Ravindra Jadeja, who has added 12 runs himself in a stand of 14, keeping the scoreboard ticking in the process. 

OUT! Rishabh Pant falls, and India are in big, big trouble. Pant wanted to work the ball, but managed to chip a simple catch to the bowler, Simon Harmer. India have half their side back in the dressing room, with no Shubman Gill in the XI. 

Marco Jansen is back for his second spell, and South Africa will want the tall, lanky pacer to keep the pressure on, with Simon Harmer keeping things tight on one end. All eyes will be on Rishabh Pant to get India out of a ditch with his aggressive approach, while Washington Sundar plays the role of an anchor. 

OUT! Simon Harmer gets his first wicket of the innings, and Dhruv Jurel, who looked comfortable in the middle, has to walk back to the pavilion. A poor ball from Harmer brings about a wicket for South Africa, as Jurel holes up at deep mid-wicket, handing the fielder a simple catch. 

With no Marco Jansen on the field, Indian batters have found it a bit easier to bat in the middle. Both Washington Sundar and Dhruv Jurel have managed to hit boundaries, which has eased the pressure away from the home side, with the target down to double digits. 

South Africa are clearly at an advantage, and will be eager not to let India off the hook. A lot will depend on Washington Sundar and Dhruv Jurel, who will look to rebuild India's innings first, while also playing positive cricket. 

India have started their chase of 124 on a bad note, losing both their openers in the first three overs. Marco Jansen did most of the damage, getting rid of Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul in back-to-back overs, handing South Africa an advantage into lunch on Day 3. Washington Sundar and Dhruv Jurel stopped the bleeding for India, who are still 114 runs away from victory, and have only 7 wickets in hand. 

OUT! KL Rahul departs as his 6-ball stay in the middle comes to an end, thanks to an unplayable delivery by Marco Jansen. Jansen gets the ball to zip off the pitch, which surprises Rahul, who hands a catch to a diving Kyle Verreynne. 

OUT! Marco Jansen hands South Africa the perfect start, removing the dangerous Yashasvi Jaiswal in the first over itself. Jaiswal stayed inside his crease and could only manage to edge the ball to the wicketkeeper for a 4-ball duck. 

OUT! Mohammed Siraj gets his second wicket of the over, and South Africa have bundled out for 153, setting India a target of 124 runs. India will be without the services of Shubman Gill, who has been ruled out of the Eden Gardens Test.

FIFTY! Truly a captain's knock from Temba Bavuma. Bavuma reaches his 26th Test half-century under the toughest of conditions, as other batters fail, on a pitch that is tough with every passing over. 

OUT! Jasprit Bumrah provides India a much-needed breakthrough. Corbin Bosch played a crucial hand in his 44-run stand with Temba Bavuma, helping South Africa surpass a 100-run lead. South Africa's lead has managed to cross the 100-run mark, and that too in style, with Corbin Bosch hitting a massive six off Kuldeep Yadav. Bosch, along with Temba Bavuma, have added 39 runs for the eighth wicket and have seen Proteas past the three-digit mark. Bavuma is nearing his 26th Test half-century as well. 

India have, as expected, started Day 3 with spin from both ends, hoping to make use of an uneven pitch. Temba Bavuma has looked more comfortable than dead batting on most occasions, while Corbin Bosch is on the lookout for runs whenever a chance arises. 

India will want to clean up South Africa's innings as quickly as possible and ensure their target is under 100. Temba Bavuma and Corbin Bosch will aim to take South Africa's total over the three-figure mark. The first hour of play might see the pitch settled. 

Unfortunate news coming in, that India's captain Shubman Gill has been ruled out of the ongoing Eden Gardens Test, and will not participate further. Gill suffered a neck injury on Day 2 and will continue to remain in the hospital and under observation.
