Karun Nair, only the second Indian to score a triple century in Test matches, was in the Indian Test squad which toured England too but never got a chance to play, even as players such as Hanuma Vihari and Rishabh Pant got to represent the country. Former Chief Selector Dilip Vengsarkar has expressed disappointment with the way Karun Nair has been treated by the team management and selectors. Vengsarkar, talking to The Times of India, said that the manner in which Karun Nair has been dropped is "baffling". The former selector emphasized his stand referring to Karun's triple hundred, saying that scoring a triple hundred in any grade is a remarkable achievement. Karun Nair had scored 303 not out against England in the year 2016 at the fifth test played in Chennai, but has fallen out of favour with the selectors after a few inconsequential knocks. However, many observers and experts are of the opinion that Karun Nair deserves a chance which he is not allowed by the current selectors and team management.
