Riding high on Fakhar Zaman’s explosive knock of 94 runs, the Qalandars’ piled up a huge total of 186 runs on the board, for the loss of 4 wickets. Zaman scored the highest runs by an individual in this tournament as he scored 94 runs off 50 balls, where he hit 6 sixes and 9 fours.

Gladiators’ bowlers were listless in the match as Shane Watson and Rahat Ali leaked 101 runs, and took only a wicket, in 8 overs shared between them. Chasing the challenging total of 185 runs, Jason Roy and Watson provided a solid platform in the start. They were cruising on 52 runs in the 6th over. Regular wickets from there on led their downfall.

After the 26th match in the PSL 2018, the Quetta Gladiators are on the second spot of the latest points table. Lahore Qalandars are still languishing in the bottom spot of the table. With only a few matches left in the tournament, it will be interesting to see which team makes to the playoff this season.

The third edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) began on February 22, amidst huge fanfare. The month-long tournament will see six teams participate in the Twenty20 tournament. Islamabad United, Karachi Kings, Lahore Qalandars, Multan Sultans, Peshawar Zalmi, and Quetta Gladiators are six teams that will be playing in the tournament. United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Pakistan will be the host countries for the PSL T20 tournament. The Final of the PSL is scheduled to be played in National Stadium, in Karachi on March 25, 2018.

We look at the points structure of the PSL’s 3rd Season. PSL will be following the rules and guidelines laid down by the International Cricket Council (ICC). During the group stage, the points will be awarded as mentioned:

  • 2 points will be awarded to the team if they win.
  • 1 point will be awarded to both the teams if there is no result.
  • No points if the team loses.
  • If the scores are tied in the end of the match, then a Super Over will be played, that will determine the winner.

The rankings will be based upon:

  • Most number of points.
  • If the teams have scored an equal number of points, then the team with the higher number of wins will be placed on top.
  • If the teams are still tied on same points, then the ranking will depend on the net run rate.

The tournament will see a sea of former international players take part in the league. Some of the notable names that will be taking part in the tournament are Brendon McCullum, Kumar Sangakkara, Dwayne Smith, Kevin Pietersen, Shane Watson, and Albie Morkel. Last year, Peshawar Zalmi beat Quetta Gladiators in the Final of the second edition of the Pakistan Super League. It will be interesting to see which team will emerge as the winner of the PSL 2018?
