Rashid Khan on Thursday, September 5 became the youngest captain to lead a team in Test cricket. The Afghanistan all-rounder is leading his national team against Bangladesh in a one-off Test match during Afghanistan tour of Bangladesh 2019. By leading the Afghanistan team in the match, the right-arm bowler has broken Tatenda Taibu’s earlier record for being the youngest skipper to lead a team in Tests. The match is being played at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Bangladesh. Former Zimbabwe cricketer Tatenda Taibu led his team in Tests at the age of 20 years and 358 days in 2004. Rashid, being 20 years and 350 days old, has broken the 15-year-old record of the former Zimbabwe wicket-keeper. Taibu led Zimbabwe team in 2004, in a Test match against Sri Lanka at Harare Sports Club, Harare. Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, the Indian cricketer who led the Indian team at the age of 21 years and 77 days, is the third cricketer in the list. The Afghanistan Test squad under Rashid Khan's leadership consists of Asghar Afghan, Mohammad Nabi, Ihsanullah, Ibrahim Zadran, Rahmat Shah, Hashmatullah Shahidi, Ikram Alikhil (wicket-keeper), Zahir Khan, Javed Ahmadi, Ahmad Shirzad, Yamin Ahmadzai, Afsar Zazai (wicket-keeper), Shapoor Zadran and Qais Ahmad. Meanwhile, the Bangladesh team is led by Shakib Al Hasan in the match. The all-rounder and senior player of Bangladesh is leading the team again after a brilliant performance in ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.
