19-year-old batsman Shubman Gill on Thursday made his One-Day International (ODI) debut during the fourth game between India and New Zealand. The talented right-handed batsman was added in the squad as KL Rahul’s replacement. Now with Virat Kohli rested for remainder of New Zealand tour, Shubman Gill gets his opportunity and was included in India’s playing XI. He becomes 227th plated to represent India in ODIs. Shubman Gill shot to fame during the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup in 2018 which was held in New Zealand. India won that tournament and Shubman Gill scored 372 runs including unbeaten 102 against rivals Pakistan.

Shubman Gill has played nine First-Class matches and averages 77.28 so far. In 16 innings, the right-handed batsman has scored three centuries and seven half-centuries. In his List A career, Shubman Gill averages 47.78 in 36 matches. The young batsman, who hails from Punjab, is likely to bat at number three, Interestingly, Shubman Gill is tipped as the next big thing in Indian cricket team. And if the youngster kickstarts things on a positive note, he might end up finding himself in the Indian squad for ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, which is around four months away.
