A significant privacy issue has emerged with Anthropic’s Claude AI after shared conversations and artifacts were discovered publicly indexed on Google, as per claims by certain users. Users who employed the share feature created links that search engines crawled and listed, exposing sensitive content to anyone searching the web.

What Users Discovered?

Om Patel (@om_patel5) alleged and highlighted that shared Claude chats containing API keys, credentials, crypto wallets, personal resumes with addresses and phone numbers, legal discussions, internal company project details and even social security numbers had become searchable. He noted that Anthropic had not added a noindex tag to these pages. Is the Viral Video of a Snake Spotted on a Flight's Wing Real? Fact Check Reveals It's AI-Generated.

In an update, Patel warned the problem extends to shared artifacts such as financial models, payroll data, customer lists, legal documents and health trackers. Third party sites have begun scraping these materials into browsable collections.

Alex Prompter (@alex_prompter) posted a Reddit discovery showing shared Claude conversations appearing in public search results, with the post gaining thousands of upvotes. He explained that hitting share creates a public page rather than a private link, and advised users that unsharing is the only reliable way to remove content as cached versions may persist.

Advice for Affected Users

Both accounts urged people who have ever shared a Claude chat or published an artifact to review and delete or unpublish anything personal or confidential through settings. The situation mirrors a similar incident with ChatGPT that OpenAI addressed more quickly.  The episode underscores the need for clearer communication around sharing features and stronger default privacy protections in AI platforms. Fact Check: After Salman Khan, Did Shah Rukh Khan React to CJP-Led Student Protest?
