Deezer to Roll Out AI Music Filter by Year-End 2026

Deezer is set to introduce a groundbreaking toggle feature by the end of 2026, enabling users to filter out fully AI-generated music from their streaming experience. This move, spearheaded by CEO Alexis Lanternier, addresses significant user demand and the escalating volume of synthetic content. The platform receives nearly 90,000 AI-generated tracks daily.

Global music streaming platform Deezer is set to empower its users with the ability to exclude fully AI-generated music from their listening experience. The company announced on October 13 and 14, 2026, that a new toggle feature will be rolled out globally before the end of the year, providing listeners with more control over the content they consume.

This development follows Deezer's proactive stance on artificial intelligence in music, having become the first digital streaming platform (DSP) to explicitly label AI-generated music in June 2025. The upcoming toggle will allow users to simply switch off AI-generated tracks, albums, and associated artists from appearing in their search results, with the option to reactivate it at any time. Is the AI Boom Slowing Down? Addressing User Demand and Industry Challenges

Deezer's Chief Executive, Alexis Lanternier, emphasised the company's commitment to transparency and user choice. “The explosion of AI-generated content continues to impact the whole music ecosystem, and we believe in shaping a future based on transparency and choice, with respect for artists, songwriters and music fans,” Lanternier stated. He further added, “We've seen a clear user demand for the ability to filter out AI-generated music, and we are now giving everyone the option to remove this content completely from their streaming experience on Deezer, and focus only on human creators and creations, if they wish.”

The decision is backed by a Deezer/Ipsos study from November 2025, which revealed that 45% of music streaming users desired the option to filter out 100% AI-generated music. The study also highlighted that a staggering 97% of respondents from a survey of 9,000 people across eight countries could not differentiate between fully AI-generated and human-made music in a blind test.

The Rising Tide of Synthetic Sound

The influx of AI-generated content into the music ecosystem has been a growing concern. Deezer has reported receiving nearly 90,000 fully AI-generated tracks daily, which, on peak days, can account for more than 50% of the total daily deliveries to the platform. While the consumption of AI-generated music on Deezer currently remains low, accounting for only 1% to 3% of total streams, a significant 85% of these streams were detected as fraudulent in 2025 and are subsequently demonetised.

Since launching its AI detection tool in January 2025, Deezer has identified and excluded over 42 million AI-generated tracks from its algorithmic and editorial recommendations between January 2025 and August 2026. GTA Next Game Could Launch Sooner? Broader Industry Response

Deezer's new filter is part of a broader industry effort to manage the impact of AI. Other platforms are also taking steps; for instance, Tidal announced in June 2026 that it would cease paying royalties for wholly AI-generated music. Furthermore, Sony Music was reported in October 2026 to have sought the removal of more than 260,000 AI-generated uploads deemed infringing by the end of September 2026. While Deezer's new feature specifically targets fully AI-generated content, the company has clarified that its current detection focuses on content created entirely through generative AI platforms and does not filter music with limited AI-assisted elements.
