Nvidia has rolled out DLSS 5 with 3D-Guided Neural Rendering for RTX 50 series GPUs and GeForce NOW, debuting in NBA 2K27. Nvidia has officially rolled out DLSS 5 featuring 3D-Guided Neural Rendering, launching on September 3 for all GeForce RTX 50 series desktop and laptop GPUs, as well as GeForce NOW. The technology makes its commercial debut in NBA 2K27, developed by Visual Concepts and published by 2K. Operating as the final stage of the rendering pipeline, DLSS 5 uses artificial intelligence to enhance lighting, shadows, and material details such as skin subsurface scattering and hair light transmission, running at up to 4K resolution on a single graphics card.

The official release follows a divisive announcement in March, where initial demonstrations sparked widespread online discussion and criticism over dramatic visual alterations to character models. Nvidia has since emphasized that the production version provides developers with granular artistic controls, including structure and tone intensity sliders alongside semantic AI masking, allowing studios to fine-tune enhancements precisely while maintaining the structural foundation of the game engine's base frame.
Performance Impact and Future Availability
While the technology delivers significant fidelity improvements, it also introduces a notable hardware demand. Nvidia estimates the performance impact of DLSS 5 to be between 50 and 60 percent, requiring robust hardware setups and complementary features like multi-frame generation to maintain high frame rates. Currently, NBA 2K27 is the only officially supported title available at launch, and Nvidia has not yet confirmed a timeline for when DLSS 5 will expand to other previously teased titles. NVIDIA DLSS 5 Coming to Any Game Beyond NBA 2K27?
As per a report by The Verge, the publication noted regarding the initial rollout and game support: “Nvidia did not answer our questions about when DLSS 5 might come to any game beyond NBA 2K27, nor reconfirm that previously confirmed titles will still include the tech.” Players can enable the feature by downloading the latest Game Ready Driver and toggling neural rendering within the game settings.
