Melbourne, July 11:  Telstra Group reportedly plans to lay off hundreds of employees amid ongoing structural changes and significant updates in the enterprise business. The telecommunication giant laid off thousands of employees last year to cut costs amid inflation. The Telstra layoffs round 2025 will affect 550 employees, reducing 2% of the company's workforce. Australian telecom company said the layoffs were unrelated to artificial intelligence (AI).

Telstra layoffs in 2025 would be a part of the company's broader efforts to reset organisational operations and not linked to the adoption of AI, clarified a spokesperson. The move would help the Australia-based telecom giant improve its internal efficiencies as the demand shift witnessed in the enterprise business. According to reports, Telstra did not specify which departments would be affected by the latest round of layoffs. 

Telstra's consecutive restructures hint at deeper operational changes that could impact long-term workforce plans. Telstra announced it would lay off 2,800 employees by the end of 2024. The layoffs were aimed at reducing the workforce by 10% and helping save the company money amid inflation and competition. The job cuts were set to be part of the company's review of its 'network applications' and 'service business'. By the end of August 2023, Telstra had 31,000 employees and with the workforce reduction, it aimed to save AU$ 200 to AU$ 250 million for the fiscal year 2024-2025.
