Ride-hailing major Uber is cutting approximately 200 to 250 jobs in India as part of a sweeping global restructuring plan designed to flatten management layers and reduce coordination overhead. This comes after Bloomberg reported that Uber was planning to cut approximately 3,300 jobs, amounting to roughly 10 per cent of its global workforce.

Global Overhaul and Restructuring Goals
The India job cuts form part of a broader worldwide workforce reduction affecting approximately 3,300 roles, or about 10 per cent of Uber's total global staff. In a communication to employees, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi explained that rapid expansion over the past five years introduced unnecessary structural complexity, excessive management layers, and fragmented ownership. “I’m sure many of you have felt that you spend too much time “aligning” rather than building, shipping, or serving customers. To improve this, we have reduced roles primarily focussed on coordination, and have clarified the remit of the coordination roles that remain,” the email read by the CEO read. Meanwhile, an Uber India spokesperson stated, "Globally, we are making organisational changes to remove layers so we can move faster. As part of these changes, we will be saying goodbye to some valued team members in India, whom we will support through this transition."
The company expects the reorganisation to generate cost savings that will be redirected toward core business sectors, such as ride-hailing, delivery expansion, and emerging autonomous mobility initiatives.
