A 19-year-old man has admitted deliberately contaminating a public swimming pool in west Wales on multiple occasions, leading to repeated closures and financial losses for a community-run facility. Dyfed-Powys Police said the man confessed to deliberately placing waste material in the pool at Newcastle Emlyn Swimming Pool, with the matter now resolved through an adult community resolution.

The incidents took place over several months and disrupted swimming lessons, bookings and daily operations at the charity-run pool. According to pool staff, there were 18 contamination incidents between February 2 and May 21, 2026, with each requiring the facility to close for cleaning and safety procedures. UK Man Accused of Drugging Wife, Allowing 13 Other Men To Rape Her for More Than 2 Decades.

Dyfed-Powys Police said they launched an investigation after receiving reports of repeated criminal damage involving waste material being deliberately placed in the swimming pool.

A police spokesperson said: "received a report concerning a series of alleged criminal damage incidents" at the pool. "The incidents occurred between November 2025 and May 2026. "They involved waste material being deliberately placed in the swimming pool, leading to its subsequent closure and cleaning. Who Was S Srinath Reddy? "A 19-year-old man, from the Cardigan area, was identified and interviewed by officers. "They fully admitted the offences and the matter was resolved through an adult community resolution. "The investigation is now closed."

Police said community resolutions are intended to reduce re-offending by encouraging offenders to recognise the impact of their actions and participate in restorative or educational programmes in consultation with victims.

Pool representatives said staff became increasingly concerned by the repeated contamination incidents and undertook extensive efforts to identify the person responsible.

Senior staff reviewed many hours of CCTV footage while implementing additional monitoring protocols before identifying the suspect. The evidence was subsequently handed over to Dyfed-Powys Police, leading to the man's identification and interview.

Following the conclusion of the investigation, Newcastle Emlyn Swimming Pool said the repeated closures had caused significant financial hardship for the charity-run facility.

According to the pool, the contamination incidents resulted in refunds to customers, cancelled bookings, lower visitor numbers and disruption to swimming lesson programmes.

A spokesperson said: "The majority of our customers were supportive and understanding that we took the water safety measures seriously and closed albeit also frustrated at the frequency. "We thank them for their support."

The spokesperson added: "The financial impact has been significant due to refunds given as well as loss of income from other bookings and footfall which we, as a community-run pool, rely on. "The cost to keeping a swimming pool open is significant and even more so for a community-run pool.

"Our funds have been depleted by these incidents and any donations or offers of financial help would be greatly appreciated. "We thank the staff involved for their hard work in identifying the responsible person and recognise how difficult this process has been for our current staff."

Pool representatives said there have been no further contamination incidents or closures since the responsible person was identified. The charity also thanked customers for their patience and support throughout the investigation, while acknowledging the efforts of staff who helped identify the individual responsible.
