The Kern County Sheriff's Office in the US has launched an investigation into the apparent theft of a family pet after home security footage captured an Amazon delivery driver walking away with a cat. The incident, which occurred outside a residential home in Bakersfield, was recorded on a Ring door camera and subsequently shared on social media by the animal's owner, Brenda Wilson.

The Disappearance of 'Junie' the Cat

The video footage appears to show the delivery driver approaching the home to drop off a package. After completing the delivery, the driver is seen picking up the family's cat, a feline named Junie, and leaving the property with her. RFK Jr Snake Catching Viral Video: US Health Secretary Seen Picking Up Black Racer Snakes Bare-Handed As Cheryl Hines Reacts in Shock.

“Utter disbelief … that anybody would have the nerve to do that. I’m just shocked,” Wilson told local news outlet KGET. Reviewing the footage, Wilson noted that Junie appeared uncomfortable as the driver approached. "Maybe he just really thought she was the most chill cat ever, and was just like, ‘hey, let me test it,’” Wilson said. “He kind of made a sound to her, and you can see that as he got closer, she meowed at him and was like, stranger danger ... I kind of wish she fought back. But that’s just not really in her nature," she added.

Police Investigation and Ownership Verification

Following the cat's disappearance, Wilson filed an official report with local law enforcement. The Kern County Sheriff's Office has since confirmed to reporters that the incident is actively being investigated as an apparent "theft of a cat". In a separate public post on Facebook, Wilson clarified that her family has owned Junie since 2022. She noted that she possesses extensive photographic evidence to verify ownership, including pictures of the cat with her kittens. Wilson expressed hope that the animal would be returned safely, emphasising that Junie is familiar with the neighbourhood layout. "They could just drop her off in the driveway,” Wilson said. “She knows what to do. She’ll come straight to the garage, get inside the house, and do what she has to do," she added. ‘Get the F*ck out of My Country’: Indian Couple Faces Racist Abuse in US, Video Goes Viral.

Corporate Response and Contract Structure

When contacting representatives regarding the driver's identity, Wilson was informed that the individual involved was not a direct corporate employee of Amazon. Amazon utilises a third-party logistics model to handle a significant portion of its residential deliveries. These regional entities operate independently to fulfil routes under corporate branding guidelines. "The driver works for a Delivery Service Partner, which are small businesses that deliver packages to customers," an Amazon spokesperson said in an official statement. "We’re looking into it and working with law enforcement as they investigate," the spokesperson added. The status of the driver's contract with the Delivery Service Partner remains unconfirmed as the sheriff's department continues its inquiry.
