However, the shark was reportedly a dogfish, a type of shark commonly found in the area and considered harmless to humans. According to Dr Greg Skomal, a white shark expert with the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries, dogfish do not have the sharp teeth associated with larger predatory sharks.
The unusual encounter occurred as Barnegat Bay flooded parts of Surf City, with the area reportedly receiving up to four feet of water. The nor’easter caused widespread flooding along the East Coast, while strong winds reaching around 70 mph knocked out power for thousands.
