An Ohio father is facing felony charges after allegedly posing as his 11-year-old daughter on TikTok to trap a man accused of s*xually assaulting the child. Malik Chandler, 31, was arrested after shooting 20-year-old Diego Montoya Gonzalez twice inside Chandler’s Grove City residence. Montoya Gonzalez was taken to Grant Medical Center in Columbus for treatment and subsequently indicted on multiple child s*xual abuse charges.
The series of events began when the victim’s mother discovered a video on the young girl's cell phone depicting her s*xual abuse at the family's residence, the NYP reported. Prosecutors stated that the family contacted law enforcement on July 15 to report the incident. The following day, Chandler took matters into his own hands by logging into his daughter's TikTok account to communicate with Montoya Gonzalez and trick him into returning to the property. According to investigators, Chandler stated that his original plan was to physically overpower Montoya Gonzalez, restrain him at the residence, and notify police. However, Chandler told authorities he reacted when he believed he saw Montoya Gonzalez reach into a pocket for a weapon. Chandler then grabbed a firearm resting on a counter and fired two shots.
When police arrived at the Grove City home, they located Montoya Gonzalez sitting in a chair, suffering from two gunshot wounds. Chandler was taken into custody and subsequently charged with felony assault, with a judge setting his bond at USD 1,00,000. Following an investigation into the initial assault allegations, a Franklin County grand jury indicted Montoya Gonzalez on eight total counts, including five counts of pandering s*xually oriented material, two counts of rape, and one count of obstruction of official business. Prosecutors allege that a search of Montoya Gonzalez's phone uncovered multiple digital files depicting the s*xual abuse of minors, including a clip involving an infant or toddler.
The victim's parents were present in the Franklin County Common Pleas Courtroom during Montoya Gonzalez's arraignment. The court established a USD 20,000 recognizance bond along with a USD 50,000 cash bond.
As a condition of his potential release, the judge mandated that Montoya Gonzalez have no contact with the victim or her family and imposed a strict ban prohibiting him from using the internet for any non-work-related purpose. The Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office did not immediately respond to requests for additional comment.
