US President Donald Trump has issued a fresh warning to Iran, saying “time is running out” for Tehran to reach a peace deal or reopen the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. In a social media post on Saturday, April 4, Donald Trump said Iran has 48 hours to act or face severe consequences, escalating tensions in an already volatile region.
The warning comes amid ongoing conflict and uncertainty over maritime access in the Gulf. The Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil shipping route, has been at the centre of geopolitical tensions, with disruptions raising concerns about global energy supplies. Donald Trump Says Iran Has 48 Hours To Make Deal
In his post on Truth Social, Trump reiterated a previous deadline and warned of strong action if Iran does not comply. “Remember when I gave Iran ten days to MAKE A DEAL or OPEN UP THE HORMUZ STRAIT… Time is running out — 48 hours before all Hell will reign down on them,” he said.
The president has made several statements in recent days indicating a hardening stance, including remarks that the United States would “finish the job” in dealing with Iran. Iran’s Military Refutes Donald Trump, Says War Will Continue Till US Faces ‘Permanent Humiliation’.
Trump’s comments reflect a shifting position on US involvement in the Strait of Hormuz. While at times he has emphasized securing maritime access, he has also suggested broader economic and strategic goals linked to the region’s oil supply.
In a separate post, he said the US could “open the Hormuz Strait” and benefit economically from oil flows, underscoring the importance of the waterway to global markets.
Iran Signals Openness to Talks
Amid rising tensions, Iran has indicated a willingness to engage in diplomatic efforts. Abbas Araghchi said Tehran has not refused proposed peace talks and expressed appreciation for mediation efforts by Pakistan.
“We have never refused to go to Islamabad,” he said in a statement, adding that Iran seeks a “conclusive and lasting end” to what it described as an imposed conflict. Pakistan has recently offered to host talks between the U.S. and Iran, though no confirmed schedule has been announced.
