A doctor who had been on the run for more than two decades after allegedly s*xually assaulting a woman on his yacht in 2003 has been arrested, and investigators say he spent recent years secretly running the medical side of a Los Angeles biotech company under a fake name. Ronald L. Fischer, now 70, was taken into custody last week after U.S. Marshals, the Coast Guard, the FBI and Rhode Island police tracked him to a 56-foot sailboat off the coast of New York and New Jersey. The boat, named "The Silver Lining," was registered under the alias "Richard Graydon," which Fischer had reportedly been using for years.

Fugitive Doctor Ronald Fischer Ran LA Biotech Firm Under Fake Name For Years

How He Was Living A Double Life In Biotech
Under the Graydon alias, Fischer was hired in March as chief medical officer of Immix Biopharma, a Los Angeles based biotech company, according to law enforcement sources and a company filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. His biography on the company's website described "Dr. Graydon" as a board certified hematologist oncologist with more than 20 years of experience in clinical development, claiming stints at Merck and Johnson & Johnson and work on approved drugs including Darzalex, Carvykti, Keytruda and Imbruvica. The biography also claimed he held an MD and PhD from Stanford University and had trained at Harvard affiliated Massachusetts General Hospital. Immix Biopharma has not independently confirmed that Graydon and Fischer are the same person, and it disclosed in a regulatory filing that Graydon was terminated on July 17, 2026, for "reasons unrelated to his activities at the company." The Graydon biography and press release announcing his hiring have since been removed from the company's website. Immix shares fell sharply after the news broke.
How Investigators Tracked Him Down
U.S. Marshals said a tip helped them link the Graydon alias to sailing and yacht club connections, which eventually led them to a marina in New York. When the Coast Guard alerted agents that the sailboat was moving, U.S. Marshals boarded it and found a man matching Fischer's description. He initially maintained he was Graydon, officials said, but his fingerprints confirmed his true identity.
"This arrest demonstrates that time does not erase accountability," said Wing Chau, U.S. Marshal for the District of Rhode Island, adding that Fischer believed he had escaped justice for more than 20 years.
Fischer was arraigned and, according to the Manhattan district attorney's office, was "remanded and waived extradition." Officials are still determining whether he will first face federal court proceedings for absconding or be sent to New York state court ahead of extradition back to Rhode Island.
