Bhairon Singh Rathore, BSF's veteran and 1971 India-Pak war hero, died on December 19 in AIIMS, Jodhpur. Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the death of the 81-year-old war veteran. PM Modi tweeted, “Naik (Retd) Bhairon Singh Ji will be remembered for his service to our nation” Union Home Minister Amit Shah tweeted, “…flame of love and patriotism in his heart for the motherland was truly unique.” Actor Suniel Shetty, who portrayed Bhairon Singh Rathore's bravery in the 1997 movie 'Border', condoled his death.
