The Cyber Crime Unit of Mumbai Police managed to track down and arrest two individuals who have been accused of creating a demeaning app that used photos of Muslim women from their social media accounts to create unauthorised profiles on a new app to “auction them”. Mumbai Police arrested one 21-year-old Vishal Kumar Jha from Bangalore and an 18-year-old woman Shweta Singh from Uttarakhand. The app allegedly created by the duo was hosted on GitHub. It was later taken down after Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi lodged an FIR with Mumbai Police. The app targeted Muslim women who are public figures or influencers on social media and are vocal about social issues.
