Coimbatore Handloom Industry Reels Under GST, Weavers Demands Exemption

The handloom industry is reeling after Central Government imposed five percent Goods and Services Tax (GST) on handloom products. The industry is affected as manufacturers claim that they are unable to manage cost. Many people have left the industry. A handloom weaver said, “Currently, in Tamil Nadu we are around 50 lakh weavers in Devanga community. Current issue in that this handloom textile industry is affected after GST implementation.”
