It is likely to continue to move west-northwestwards, weakening further into a depression during the next six hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on September 27. Reportedly, at least three people were killed in Odisha & Andhra Pradesh. The cyclone hit the coasts between Kalingapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and Gopalpur. Coastal districts in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha have been put on red alert. More than 39,000 people, including 600 pregnant women, disabled and the elderly, were evacuated to safety before the cyclone’s landfall. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who is on a tour to New Delhi, reviewed the preparedness through a video conference.
