Delhi-NCR Lashed By Rains As Cyclone Tauktae Storm System Reaches North India

Delhi received the highest rain for the month of May in 70 years between May 19 morning & May 20 morning, the Met department said. The capital saw non-stop rain on May 19 due to the impact of Cyclone Tauktae. At 119.3 mm, this is the highest ever since 1951. IMD had issued an 'orange' alert for Delhi, predicting 'heavy' to 'very heavy' rainfall in parts of the capital with winds gusting up to 60 km per hour on May 19. The capital's maximum temperature for May too dipped to the lowest in 70 years, with a record 23.8 degrees on May 19. Delhi's maximum temperature during the day on May 19 was less than that of Srinagar (25.8 degrees) & Dharamshala (27.2 degrees). India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that light to moderate rainfall will continue in Delhi for the next 24 hours. Cyclone Tauktae has impacted the weather conditions in several parts of Northern India.
