IB Fact Check, a fact-checking unit of the central government, has warned taxpayers about fake emails claiming to be from the Income Tax Department, asking for “manual verification” to process refunds above INR 25,000. These fraudulent emails instruct recipients to submit sensitive information such as PAN, bank account, and Aadhaar details via suspicious links. Cybercriminals use these phishing emails to steal personal data and commit financial fraud. Taxpayers are urged not to click on these links or share confidential information. The Income Tax Department never requests such details over email.
